November Fundraiser PDF Print E-mail

On November 21st - 23rd, we hosted the first annual, "Cure Duchenne Camp and Ramp Jam", a benefit skateboarding competition and campout which attracted skaters and families statewide. Skaters payed donation fees to compete, while spectators further helped our cause by purchasing plates of food which were donated by several area restaurants. Skateboard equipment was donated for prizes by companies from California to Florida.

Although the temperatures were a little on the chilly side, (low 30s at night), everyone had a wonderful time seeing old friends and making new ones. While a few braved the cold in tents, most opted to "camp" in the house, after hanging out by the bonfire toasting marshmallows and making chilli dogs.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Bruce Whiteside, Diane Lance, Mara Lance, Phil Camilleri, Todd Johnson and Sector 9 Skateboards, Jay Turner, Todd and Kristy Webb, Cleo Coney, John Lucero(Black Label Skateboards), Freeride Surfshop, The Gathering Restaurant, Nell's Restaurant, Sister's Cafe, Hometown Meat Market, and Cuzin's Cafe, for making this event a success.

What impressed us most of all though, was the genuine interest shown in helping our cause. Several in fact, donated most of their remaining travel money, while one of the spectators donated $500.00. By the weekend's end, whe tallied up over $1200.00 in donations for research.

We came away from the weekend with warm feelings of comfort, knowing more than ever, that we are not alone in this fight.
